Alpina Introduces the Alpiner Extreme Automatic With “California Dial” (With Live Photos)
The Alpiner Extreme Automatic from Alpina has just “been decked out with a California dial” for the first time. For those unfamiliar: this type of dial features a blend of Arabic and Roman numerals (half-Arabic, half-Roman), as well as dashes and an inverted triangle at 12 o’clock, with the purpose to make reading the time from any angle error proof. While the nickname “California” is comparatively new, dials with this particular combination date back the 1930s (usually early Rolex and Panerai watches).
But back to Alpina’s new Ref. AL-525BB4AE6: the Swiss brand went with vintage luminous beige hands and hour markers with a black dial, housed in steel cushion case (41×42.5mm). This version of the Alpiner Extreme comes on a rubber strap, it is powered by the AL-525 (Sellita SW200-1) with 38 hours of power reserve. Photos:
The prototype can be seen first at Wind-Up Watch Fair New York (Oct 20-22). Pre-orders from October 20th-27th will be possible, the watch will be shipping in December. $1,795
