The New Gold Longines Master Collection GMT

The Longines Master Collection has always been a discreet one. Classic, timeless design with nothing truly groundbreaking to report. Sure, these were elegant and restrained models but they could live with a bit more extravagance. In late 2022 and again last year, Longines decided to do exactly that, with the release of a series of Master models with stunning dials featuring engraved Breguet numerals. For its first release of 2024, this collection is again under the spotlight, with two new exclusive versions that combine luxury, refined design and practicality. Meet the new Longines Master Collection GMT Gold limited edition.

One of the brand’s most emblematic collections, and despite its overall discretion, the Longines Master is a watch to consider if you’re on the market for something timeless, refined and with movements that always offer something extra. With these new releases, the basics are still alive, with 40mm round cases that are entirely polished, with a domed, smooth bezel and a large dial opening revealing a classic dial. What matters here are the materials and the complications. And yes, there’s also a new dial design that elevates once again the overall elegance.

Available in two versions, one in 2N 18k yellow gold, and the other in 5N 18k rose gold, these watches are entering a slightly different market than their stainless steel counterparts – the Master models have long been characterized by a great value for the money. The polished gold cases, however, do bring these watches a certain sense of extravagance and exclusivity. Relatively thin, at 10.40mm, they feature sapphire crystals on both sides and their water-resistance is limited to 30m, confirming their dressy vocation. A nice touch, the 21mm wide alligator strap is executed in a dark grey skin with a “soft touch” effect.

The dial of these new Longines Master Collection GMT is also notable, capturing a new refinement with their frosted silver finish and applied Roman numerals in gold – matching the alloy used for the case. It’s all very classic but more animated than the usual baton or printed markers previously found in this collection. Just like last year’s version with engraved numerals, the idea is to add more depth and traditional decorative techniques. The inner flange is fitted with a 24-hour scale working together with a blackened GMT hand. And you’ll be happy to see that we’re here talking about a traveller’s style GMT complication, where the local time hour hand is adjusted by one-hour increments.

Inside the case and under the sapphire back is the calibre L844.5. Exclusive to Longines and produced by ETA, this automatic movement is shared with the recent HydroConquest GMT and Spirit Zulu Time (even though the latter adds a chronometer certification). Running at 3.5Hz, it boasts a generous 72h power reserve and features an anti-magnetic silicon hairspring.

Released in limited editions of 500 pieces per version, the new gold Longines Master Collection GMT watches are now available and priced at EUR 16,500. For more details, please visit longines.com.
